Strategy is key to the success of any business, and all managers and executives should understand this. Strategy is key to making decisions that align with a company’s goals in the present and make goals more achievable in the future.

My experience working with executives has taught me that this skill is not everyone’s strength. Therefore, it is plain that most executives are not executives of the company because they are good at “executing” or at strategic planning. Nevertheless, a company needs a good strategy in order to achieve success.

Strategy is not guesswork. It is a tool used for guiding the building of relationships and the coordination of activities. A good strategy is made by bringing disparate information together into a feasible plan of work. If your company was a team, strategy would tell you how to create relationships, and plan the actions of your team, in order to “win” out in the world.

Take time to develop a feasible strategy and then improve it over time. Strategy will become a competitive advantage to lead your company to greatness.
